Back in July I wrote an article Must Have WP Plugins about a couple of useful plugins for WordPress. After a couple of months being involved with blogging more I decided to make a follow-up with better description and also with a few screenshots.

1. After The Deadline

After the Deadline helps you write better and spend less time editing. Click the button in the visual editor mode to check spelling, style, and grammar.

2. Akismet

Perfect for stopping spam in your comments. Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” admin screen. Some current stats from their website: 12,783,015,776 spams caught so far; 7,313,997 so far today; 83% of all comments are spam.

3. All In One SEO Pack

Automatic search engine optimization. Automatically optimizes your titles for search engines, generates META tags automatically and many other features for even advanced users. For beginners, you don’t even have to look at the options, it works out-of-the-box.

4. DBC Backup

DBC Backup is a simple way to schedule daily database backups using the wp cron system. You can select when and where your backup will be generated. If your server has support you can select between three different compression formats: none, Gzip and Bzip2. The plugin will try to auto create the export directory, the .htaccess and an empty index.html file to protect your backups. The backup file is also protected by a small hash key which make it impossible for someone to guess the backup name and download it.

5. Easy AdSense

Easy AdSense provides a very easy way to generate revenue from your blog using Google AdSense. With its full set of features, Easy AdSense is perhaps the first plugin to give you a complete solution for everything AdSense-related. Remembers AdSense code and your options by theme, so that you don’t have to re-enter them if you play with multiple themes. Simplest possible configuration interface — nothing more than cutting and pasting AdSense code, and with sensible defaults for the few options present, all with clear instructions.

6. FD Feedburner Plugin

Redirects the main feed and optionally the comments feed to Feedburner.com. It does this seamlessly without the need to modify templates, setup new hidden feeds, modify .htaccess files, or asking users to migrate to a new feed. All existing feeds simply become Feedburner feeds seamlessly and transparently for all users. Just tell the plugin what your Feedburner feed URL is and you’re done.

7. Google Analytics for WordPress

The Google Analytics for WordPress plugin automatically tracks and segments all outbound links from within posts, comment author links, links within comments, blogroll links and downloads. It also allows you to track AdSense clicks, add extra search engines, track image search queries and it will even work together with Urchin. In the options panel for the plugin, you can determine the prefixes to use for the different kinds of outbound links and downloads it tracks.

8. Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. Every time you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.

9. Link to Post

This plugin allows you to easily create a link to an existing article or page in another article or page. It adds two buttons to the TinyMCE and Quicktags editors, which list the existing articles and pages, with the possibility of filtering by content or category.

10. Redirection

Redirection is a WordPress plugin to manage 301 redirections, keep track of 404 errors, and generally tidy up any loose ends your site may have. This is particularly useful if you are migrating pages from an old website, or are changing the directory of your WordPress installation.

11. Sociable

Automatically add links to your favorite social bookmarking sites on your posts, pages and in your RSS feed. You can choose from 99 different social bookmarking sites!

12. WP-Paginate

WP-Paginate is a simple and flexible pagination plugin which provides users with better navigation on your WordPress site. In addition to increasing the user experience for your visitors, it has also been widely reported that pagination increases the SEO of your site by providing more links to your content. WP-Paginate can also be used to paginate post comments!

13. WP Minify

This plugin will combine and compress JS and CSS files to improve page load time. WP Minify grabs JS/CSS files in your generated WordPress page and passes that list to the Minify engine. The Minify engine then returns a consolidated, minified, and compressed script or style for WP Minify to reference in the WordPress header.

14. WP Security Scan

Scans your WordPress installation for security vulnerabilities and suggests corrective actions: passwords, file permissions, database security, version hiding, WordPress admin protection/security, removes WP Generator META tag from core code.

15. WP Super Cache

This plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog. After a html file is generated your webserver will serve that file instead of processing the comparatively heavier and more expensive WordPress PHP scripts. 99% of your visitors will be served static html files. Those users who don’t see the static files will still benefit because they will see regular WP-Cache cached files and your server won’t be as busy as before. This plugin will help your server cope with a front page appearance on digg.com or other social networking site.

16. Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP) gives you a list of posts and/or pages related to the current entry, introducing the reader to other relevant content on your site. Using a customizable algorithm considering post titles, content, tags, and categories, YARPP calculates a “match score” for each pair of posts on your blog. You choose the threshold limit for relevance and you get more related posts if there are more related posts and less if there are less.

17. WP-Syntax

This plugin is meant for bloggers who like to display HTML, PHP or other programming languages in their articles. WP-Syntax provides clean syntax highlighting using GeSHi – supporting a wide range of popular languages. It supports highlighting with or without line numbers and maintains formatting while copying snippets of code from the browser.
